Be Brave

FullSizeRender 3“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”                   2 Timothy 1:7

We took our 9 month old daughter to the beach last week. I was so excited to show her the ocean and let her feel the waves and sand with her little toes! She hated it. She was so scared of the waves getting her. She would not turn her back on them. I tried to let her know that Mommy was not going to let the waves hurt her but she still tried to climb up my leg every time one would come near her.

Fear can keep us from enjoying life. Why is it that we let it take hold of us so strongly, we aren’t able to function? There are times when fear is an appropriate emotion to a situation, like if you see your child run into a busy street or your loved one is in the ICU. But then there is that unnecessary kind of fear that creeps in and often is based off of the “what ifs”

What if they don’t like it?

What if it doesn’t work?

What if it ruins everything?

What if I fail?

What if they stop loving me?

What if…. What if….. What if….

I am guilty of this far to often. I may appear calm, cool and collected on the outside but inside my thoughts and emotions are unsettled and on the verge of panic.

However, that is not how God intends us to live our lives. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” -2 Timothy 1:7

If we truly settle in to the belief that God is sovereign over all, that he has a plan and purpose for our lives and that he loves us beyond comparison, then why would we be afraid?

Fears starts when we stop trusting God and his goodness.

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”-Joshua 1:9

When you find yourself letting fear creep into your thoughts or you are completely shaken by the “what ifs” in life, grab your Bible and start to see what God says about the “what if” you are facing. God does not what you to live your life crippled by fear, in fact that isn’t really living life. God whats you to live life with freedom and boldness that is only truly found in him.

“In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.”-Psalm 138: 3
